Back in 1984, the Olympics were big news everywhere, especially in the United States who was hosting the games in Los Angeles. Not to be outdone, gay groups in San Francisco organized the Gay Olympic Games, whose name was subsequently quashed in the courts by an angry Olympic Committee claiming trademark infringement.
William Higgins produced and released around this time The Young Olympians, which apparently was supposed to be a movie about hot guys going up to San Francisco competing the Gay Olympic Games. For whatever reason, the entire story concept never fully gelled. What emerged in the final movie is a good collection of Higgins’ guys pursuing jocks and athletics themes, and one can imagine from the various lead-ups to the sexual episodes that they were originally supposed to fit into some overall jigsaw.
The film is an early eighties celebration of pre-condom fucking, knee high socks, mesh shirts and other fashions long gone.
The movie ends with a romantic sexual frolic on the beach between Kurt Williams and Lance Whitman that to this day is still very engaging.
